Some key ways to stress less and boost your wellbeing include:
- - Doing what you love
- - Setting yourself goals and learning
- - Giving back
Sian Sykes ticked ALL these boxes on completing her two-month paddleboard around Wales to raise awareness about single-use plastics and raise money for three causes.
Paddleboarding is a passion for Sian, who gave up a stressful city job to move to North Wales and set up her own business as a Stand-Up paddleboard (SUP) instructor.
The saying goes ‘if you do what you love, you never have to work a day in your life’ – and Sian agrees.
“One of the reasons I love paddleboarding is that it allows me to escape from the hectic day to day pace of life” she tells us.
“Whilst on the board everything else melts away and it is just me controlling myself on the board, surrounded by water and stunning scenery.”
She explains how she enjoys the simplicity of it all: “I enjoy embracing the wild elements of mother nature. It is where I belong and find inner peace.”
While SUP certainly brings to mind idyllic images of calm waters and tranquility, Sian has also experienced struggles during some of the huge personal goals she sets herself. “I enjoy the excitement when things get a little challenging” she admits.
“While on my circumnavigation of Wales, there was never an option of quitting and my inner strength gave me the determination to succeed.”
What’s more, Sian’s whole expedition was using zero single-use plastics. Raising awareness of a cause so close to her heart helped her complete her challenge: “If I can do it for 2 months paddleboarding, so can others” she adds.
