The Road To Rio, By Non Stanford

With a place at the Olympics already secured, Welsh triathlon star Non Stanford can fully focus on Rio.

With preparation stepping up a gear, Non gave the latest update on her pelatihan and plans building up to the summer.

Training was pretty relaxed in the build up to Christmas as I was keen to not get too fit too soon. The main focus of the 2016 season is obviously the games, and being the last day of events, that means I don't want to peak until August 20th. Everything else this season is secondary and will be used to build towards that race.

Now I'm excited that January is finally here as I've now been given the nod to increase pelatihan load and intensity and really buckle down to some good work. I thrive off big pelatihan weeks, both mentally and physically, so I'm pretty happy right now. Everything is where we wanted it to be and I've just arrived in Aguilas, Spain for three weeks of sunshine miles.

My first race of the season will be in April at World Triathlon Series Cape Town. It'll be tough sitting out the first two legs of the tour but hopefully it'll be worth in in the long run. I'm really excited that the series comes to Leeds this year too! It's now my second home (Swansea being my first) so to have all the best athletes in world come visit us will be really surreal! It'll also be our last race on home soil before we head off to Rio.
